In a career of less than six years, Aubrey Beardsley, one of the best known of the Art Nouveau graphic artists, devised a brilliant succession of new styles and brought about a permanent change toward simplicity and directness in the art of illustration. Adapted from a Beardsley cover design from 1895, this frame demonstrates the artist's spare line and rich contrasts of black and white.
